Worship

Here at Ennerdale CE Primary School, collective worship is a valued and central part of our daily life. As a Church of England school, we see worship not just as a tradition, but as an important time when our whole school community can come together to reflect, celebrate, and grow in our shared values.

Each day, pupils and staff gather to pause from the busyness of lessons and activities. Collective worship gives everyone the opportunity to think about our Christian values—such as respect, compassion, friendship, and perseverance—and how these guide the way we live and learn together. Sometimes our worship includes Bible stories, songs, prayers, or moments of quiet reflection, helping children understand faith in a meaningful and age-appropriate way.

Worship at Ennerdale CE Primary also helps to strengthen our sense of belonging. Whether led by staff, visitors from the local church, or even by pupils themselves, it reminds us that we are all part of a caring community. It encourages children to think about how they can make a positive difference in school, at home, and in the wider world.

Importantly, collective worship at our school is inclusive and welcoming to everyone. It gives children time to reflect on their own beliefs and values while respecting those of others. Through these shared moments, pupils develop empathy, moral understanding, and a sense of spirituality that supports their overall wellbeing.

In essence, collective worship at Ennerdale CE Primary School is not just something we do - it is part of who we are. It helps us to live out our school’s Christian ethos every day and to grow together as a community built on love, respect, and faith.

Spirituality

At Ennerdale CE Primary School, we are deeply committed to nurturing the spiritual growth of both children and staff. Our school community values moments of reflection, curiosity, and wonder as essential parts of learning and life. Through our Christian ethos, collective worship, and thoughtful exploration of faith and values, we encourage everyone to develop a sense of purpose, compassion, and connection to the world around them. We believe that spirituality flourishes when children and teachers alike are inspired to question, to care, and to find meaning in their experiences, supporting one another on a shared journey of growth and understanding.

Worship Windows

Each class has its own special area dedicated to worship, known as our “Worship Windows.” These spaces are an important part of how we bring collective worship into everyday classroom life. A Worship Window is a calm, reflective area where children can pause, think, and connect with the themes and values we explore together in school worship.

The displays often include items such as a cross, a candle, a Bible, or symbols linked to our current Christian value or theme. There might also be prayers written by pupils, pictures, or questions to encourage reflection. These spaces change throughout the year to reflect different festivals in the Christian calendar, such as Harvest, Christmas, or Easter, or to link with topics being explored in class worship.

Our Worship Windows help children to see that worship is not just something that happens when we gather togetether for Collective Worship; it can happen anywhere, at any time. They remind us that we can take time for stillness, prayer, or quiet thought whenever we need it. By helping pupils engage with spiritual reflection in a simple, everyday way, these spaces support their personal growth and help keep our school’s Christian ethos alive in every classroom.

Good Shepherd Award

Every week, during our Celebration Worship on a Friday, children in school are presented with a Good Shepherd Award. Each week there are two Good Shepherd Awards presented, one for a child in the Infants and one for a child in the Juniors. Each half term, the recipients of the Good Shepherd Awards will have a copy of their certificate displayed in the entrance area of school for everyone to see.

Here at Ennerdale CE Primary School:

“A Good Shepherd is respectful, kind, considerate, a good listener, a good friend, well-mannered and pleasant. Most of all, they are a good role model for others.”

Class Jars

Each class in school has a Class Jar. These are a way of earning collective rewards as a class. These jars are brought along to our Celebration Worship on a Friday and shared with the whole school. The children earn a 'token' based on our vision statement - they earn tokens for 'making a positive impact on the world'. This could be for the smallest of gestures such as being polite and courteous or gestures such as looking out for friends on the playground, helping around school and being positive role models to others. Our class jars are as follows:

Infants Years 3 and 4 Years 5 and 6
